Free As A Bird

You tell me I am free
Free to say when the fire dies
Free to leave when the door blows open
Winter’s cold and heartless wind beckoning
I am free to fly like a crow after a meal
Belly full of rotting carrion

If I am free to go, I am also free to stay
To stay and bring life back to embers
Free to close the door
Blocking out the bitter cold
I am free as a bird, but I am no crow
I am an eagle soaring
I have seen what I want with my sharp eyes
And I will hold it with my fierce talons
Love is not let go so simply
